Basic Facts
Persian Leopards are also known as Caucasian Leopards.
- They are endangered
- Their principal prey are large mammals such as deer and wild pigs. They also prey on smaller wildlife such as Crested porcupine and Cape hare, and occasionally attack livestock and herd dogs.
- They are threatened by: Poaching, presence of people such as military and training groups in border areas, habitat lost due to deforestation, fire, agricultural expansion, etc.
- Habitat: forest, mountains.
- Largest Member of cat family in Iran.
- One of the largest leopards in the world.
- They are commonly 3-6ft tall and 130 pounds.
- Leopards spend a lot of time in trees, their spotted coats camouflage them.
- Fun Fact: A leopard will kill its prey with one swift bite to the neck, breaking it.
